This is what the Breitling Navitimer 8 model looks like
Breitling Navitimer is one of the most popular pilot watches in the world! We introduce you to the five current Navitimer 8 models. The number 8 in the model name comes from “Huit Aviation”. Learn all about it here.
Navitimer was developed by the Swiss family company Breitling in 1952 for high-altitude flight and equipped with a very complicated bezel. The bezel supports complex calculations such as fuel consumption, rate of climb or descent, and average speed. The tedious use of paper and pencil for calculations is largely redundant. According to aviation requirements, Navitimer can withstand severe temperature fluctuations, vibration, acceleration and deceleration, and permanent changes in position without any problems.
With Navitimer, Breitling has become the preferred manufacturer of precision watches for the aviation industry. Even today, pilots all over the world still wear the Breitling Navitimer on their wrists-arguably the most legendary model of pilot watches.
The Navitimer 8 series was presented by Breitling at the 2018 Basel International Watch, Jewellery and Watch Fair in the following five models: Navitimer 8 B01, Navitimer 8 Chronomat, Navitimer 8 Automatic, Navitimer 8 Day & Date, Navitimer 8 Unitime. Surprisingly, the new series does not have a unique slide rule bezel, which is a distinctive feature of the series since the launch of the first Navitimer.
The unique design with high recognizability is also common to all five models at present: unified luminous digital layout, small triangles on the hours and faceted luminous hands.
Breitling Navitimer 8 B01 Manufacture Movement
The Navitimer 8 Chronomat, equipped with a homemade B01 movement, displays the date between four o’clock and five o’clock in the classic sub-division of the subdial. The white sub-dials are arranged symmetrically on the black dial. Breitling’s typical contrasting panda inverted color can achieve perfect readability. The stainless steel case with a diameter of 43 mm is water resistant to 100 meters, and the power reserve of this watch is 70 hours.
Breitling Navitimer 8 Chronomat
In addition to the Chronomat equipped with its in-house movement, Breitling also offers the Chronomat Navitimer 8 equipped with the cheaper and very popular 13-type movement. This can be easily recognized by the division of the sub-dials at six o’clock, nine o’clock and twelve o’clock positions. The power reserve of this observatory is 42 hours.
Breitling Navitimer 8 Automatic
The entry-level model of the Navitimer 8 series is an automatic watch equipped with a 17-type movement. The case of this timepiece is available in stainless steel or black satin. In addition to the classic hours, minutes and seconds, this watch also has an additional date display at six o’clock.
Breitling Navitimer 8 Day & Date
The Navitimer 8 Day & Date model is characterized by the day of the week written in the window at the twelve o’clock position on the dial. The date display is at six o’clock. The 41mm stainless steel case is water-resistant to 100 meters. The power reserve of this watch is approximately 38 hours.
