Greubel Forsey’s GMT Earth timepiece provides a comprehensive three-dimensional view of the Earth from north to south pole. They explored the architecture of this timepiece from different angles, giving the movement and case a more prominent role.
With this new work, Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey are once again pushing the envelope and venturing into uncharted territory. GMT Earth offers a stunning 360° panorama of the Earth from the North Pole to the South Pole. This technical feat is achieved through an original movement architecture related to the shape and size of the case. Revealing the entire Earth requires complex sapphire crystal applications, a skill that Greubel Forsey has researched and exploited over the years.
The Earth isn’t the only 3D element in this watch – it’s a feature of every level. The three-dimensional effect first appears at the highest point of the dial, with hours, minutes and small seconds. Then, the eyes lightly pass the GMT indicator with the red triangular hand, followed by the power reserve indicator displayed by the slender hand. Finally, our eyes fall to the very bottom of the dial, which shows the earth together with the third key invention of Greubel Forsey, the Tourbillon 24 Stopwatch.
GMT Earth can clearly see three time zones simultaneously within a quarter of an hour. In addition, on the movement side of the watch, 24 time zones display summer and winter time, complementing the world time indicated by the globe.
The proportions of the case have been carefully designed to accommodate the special art on the high-dome sapphire crystal bezel and strap. The iconic side panels with inscriptions embodying the key values of Robert Gaupper and Stephen Fauci adorn the case. This platinum edition is limited to 33 pieces.
